The Czech Telecommunication Office is setting up a separate unit supervising artificial intelligence. It starts work on 1 September and will be headed by Anna Hroudová.

Plzeňská reopens to traffic after seven months

The rebuild of the Mozartova – Pod Kotlářkou stretch is finished. Road markings come down on the evening of Friday 28 August and full traffic returns on Saturday morning. Three organisations shared one trench from February on. They were the city roads authority TSK, the water utility PVS and the gas distributor PPD. That is why the street closed once instead of three times in a row.

Development plan at Nákladové nádraží Žižkov changes before completion

The Prague 3 building office has issued a decision on a change to the Rezidence Parková čtvrť scheme, the redevelopment of the former Žižkov freight station. It is posted on the official notice board from 28 August to 14 September. This is the same part of Žižkov where the transport company is now building the tram connection.

The bridge over the Botič on K Prádelně closes for three and a half months

From 1 September to 15 December the old road bridge is demolished and a new one built. The street is fully closed throughout.

Starter packs for first-graders cost 2.4 million. That works out at 141 koruna a child

Around 17 thousand packs for first-graders go to 223 Prague school facilities and the city is paying 2,389,800 koruna excluding VAT. Divided out, that is roughly 141 koruna per pack. What is inside them the announcement does not say.

Startup act: a deduction of up to five million a year, in force from July 2027 as proposed

The bill introduces certification of startups and lets investors deduct a cash investment from their tax base, up to five million koruna a year. Certification is to be run by the emerging CzechBusiness agency, with the industry ministry as the appeal and oversight body. Conditions: the company at most eight years old, ten for deep tech, annual net turnover up to 250 million, not a shell subsidiary of an established firm and not traded on a regulated market.

Žižkov loses trams between Olšanské náměstí and Nákladové nádraží for six weeks

From Saturday 29 August to 10 October the transport company is rebuilding the track junction at Olšanská and Jana Želivského and laying the connection for the future Olšanská – Habrová line. Lines 9, 26 and 95 are diverted via Flora and Olšanské hřbitovy, line 5 terminates in Holešovice and line 34 is cancelled. In parallel the Spojovací loop is repaired for two weeks, with lines 9, 11 and 98 cut back to Vozovna Žižkov.

School for 540 pupils at Jahodnice launched. The diggers arrive in autumn

The new primary school will stand on U Hostavického potoka street; besides classrooms it will have a canteen, a gym and outdoor grounds, and is due to open in two years. The city speaks of construction having begun. The Prague 14 district's own statement is more precise: there was a ceremonial start, and groundworks begin in autumn. A temporary school in Travná will bridge the gap.

Deferred school starts fall from 24 to 18 percent

The share of six-year-olds with a deferred start dropped from 24.1 % in September 2021 to 17.7 % in September 2025; last year deferral applied to just under 21 thousand children. Nurseries meanwhile hold fewer than 350 thousand children for the first time since 2012/13, while their teacher numbers grew by 21 % over ten years. Secondary schools, by contrast, had almost 515 thousand pupils last year, the most since 2011/12.
