The Smíchov City investor gives the city 120 million, part of it for a school for 580 children

Hrotano Czech, the investor behind the new Smíchov City quarter, is donating 120 million crowns to the city for transport infrastructure and a new primary school; Prague's city assembly approved accepting the gift in September. The school for 580 children on former railway land is expected to cost about 1.16 billion crowns and, according to the mayor of Prague 5, could open by 2030; the city took over its construction from the district in July. Beyond the gift, the investor will build two parks, a boulevard with shops and a public space by the Radlická kulturní sportovna, whose design will be decided by an architectural competition by the end of 2027.

Renovation of Kampa park can begin after the competition authority upheld the 51.9 million contract

The Office for the Protection of Competition upheld how Prague 1 awarded the renovation of Kampa park; the decision is final and the district can sign the contract. The Konsorcium park KAMPA won with a bid of 51,899,816 crowns excluding VAT, about 16.7 million less than the approved budget. The paths keep their current layout, and the project brings new trees and shrubs, Prague-style lanterns, a fence along the Čertovka, drinking fountains, misting points and a shaded playground. The park will not close as a whole; the district will publish the timetable once it is agreed with the contractor.

Prague 5 gets 60 million for a gym in Hlubočepy and plans a secondary school for 480 students in Barrandov

The city has given Prague 5 a grant of 60 million crowns for a building with a gym and four classrooms at the Pod Žvahovem primary school in Hlubočepy, and 35 million for a two-classroom pavilion at the Beníškové nursery school in Košíře. In Košíře the V Cibulkách primary school for about 330 children is already under construction for more than 450 million crowns excluding VAT, with the first pupils due in autumn 2027. For Barrandov, home to almost 30,000 people, the district presented a concept for a secondary school for 480 students in 16 classes with a sports hall open to the public; it has already acquired the site by Högerova, K Barrandovu and Štěpařská streets.

The former Klar Institute for the Blind has a building permit and should open to the public after renovation

The Office for Government Representation in Property Affairs has obtained a building permit to renovate the former Klar Institute for the Blind in Prague's historic centre, built between 1906 and 1909. The building once housed a physical culture centre with a swimming pool and Prague's first public sauna, and from 1993 a district prosecutor's office; it is being renovated for the Office of the Government. Detailed construction documents and an open tender for a contractor still come first, and the announcement gives neither a start date nor a cost. The Office of the Government wants to open the building to the public as widely as possible for exhibitions and educational programmes.

A new 2.3 kilometre road links Lochkov and Slivenec to take through traffic out of the villages

The Prague roads authority TSK has taken over a new 2,286 metre local road between Lochkov and Slivenec. It was built in 300 days by rebuilding a site road left over from the construction of the Prague Ring and links K Cikánce and K Lahovské streets; the contractor was SWIETELSKY stavební. It is meant to move through traffic away from the residential parts of Lochkov, Velká Chuchle, Slivenec and Radotín and speed up access to the motorways and the ring road.

Kratom only from age 21, no online sales and a tax stamp, the government has approved

On 14 September the government approved an amendment to the Addictive Substances Act and eight related laws: kratom products will only be sold to people aged 21 instead of 18, online sales will end and the products will carry a tax stamp. Excise duty is to range, by concentration, from 2 crowns per gram or millilitre up to 20 crowns for unstamped products, and VAT rises from 12 to 21 per cent. The government also backed an MPs' bill that would let the police close a shop selling products that pose a serious health risk for up to 14 days; the supervisory authority would then have 48 hours to confirm the suspicion.

A district inspector now walks the Malešice building sites daily, builders must publish schedules

After the mayor of Prague 10 met the public transport company, Prague Water and Sewerage and the contractors building the tram line on Počernická Street, a district employee now walks the Malešice sites every day. Defects that can be fixed on the spot are to be put right within hours; complaints go to pocernicka@praha10.cz. All builders are to hand over public schedules with dates, and the district will launch a separate web page for them. Soil from further excavations will be sampled, and work will stop if new contaminants turn up.

Prague has 1,409,528 residents, up 2,444 in six months and only thanks to migration

Prague's population grew by 2,444 to 1,409,528 in the first half of 2026, according to preliminary results. The growth came entirely from migration, which added 3,516 people, while natural change took away 1,072. 5,130 children were born, 6.2 per cent fewer than a year earlier and 31.7 per cent fewer than in the first half of 2021. Prague and the Central Bohemian Region were the only regions whose population grew; Czechia as a whole lost 12,200 people.

Prague 10 opens a municipal tomb at Vinohrady Cemetery for people whose funeral nobody arranged

On 10 September Prague 10 handed over its own municipal tomb at Vinohrady Cemetery. It will hold the remains of people whose funeral nobody arranged after their death; by law such a burial falls to the municipality where the person died, regardless of their registered address. Because the Královské Vinohrady University Hospital lies in the district, Prague 10 arranges more of these funerals than other districts and until now placed the urns in facilities run by others.
